About us
Starting out in residential construction doing renovations in carpentry, I found I really enjoyed working with concrete. I loved being outside and had an affinity for physical work. Concrete took me from residential, then industrial and back to commercial and municipal work, hand forming sidewalks. But I always remembered the days of hard work on small close-knit teams in residential renovations, and what a small organized group could get done with hard work and organization.
that transition now was over 10 years ago, and after surveying, cutting, pouring, forming, lifting, patching, and resurfacing you start realize the ridiculous amount of knowledge you acquire about sidewalks and the industry .
that’s why Western Walkway Warriors was established. We wanted to change the standards.
The first big step was safety. Experience working for commercial concrete around cities made me want to draw from the example set by big crews, and integrate that into the repair industry. Repairing generally involves moving to locations quicker which meant finding tools and barriers as mobile as our work, as well as improving dust collection using high end available equipment (this should be standard). We have also designed our own dust collection shroud in house, by the most experienced cutters in Canada, likely North America ( I’ll stand by that, it’s earned).
The second step was a combination of all the repair services, and offering that education to our customers. Everyone just wants to make the most informed decision they can. We think that’s reasonable. If you were to walk out to the sidewalk right now, and start a survey, seems easy enough right? Trip hazard here, little bit of pooling there. I’ll cut this panel lift that panel. But this one has a trip, and a dip. Is that sidewalk crack a problem? Now there’s a really big trip, with spalling on either side. . . . do I cut it, resurface it? Now you turn around and look back at everything you already marked, and it’s all starting to feel very ambiguous.
hiring any particular company might just end up with them looking for only things that they can service, and sometimes shouldn’t, leading to repairing the same problem multiple times. So maybe you conduct a survey. Now we're getting closer to the problem! Not all, but often companies hire students for surveys with little to no experience. A quick job posting search at the beginning of the summer will validate those findings for you.
I promise you, it is not ambiguous! Those problems are easily solved by having an experienced professional conduct the survey. It’s how we approach solving this industry’s problems
that’s what we offer , it’s what we love doing.
Safety
Given the nature and speed of work with our jobs, we are constantly moving from location to location. This has led to some ingenuity on how we contain our work sites, while keeping workers and the community safe.
For cutting concrete, a heavy duty vacuum designed for concrete dust collection is a must. Long term exposure to silica crystals is dangerous, and big box store shop vacs simply aren’t designed for it, which we’ve often seen our competitors use. We have our own in house built saw shrouds from guys who have used the tools for 10+ years to compliment this setup, along with all the necessary standard PPE for this type of work

Because of how quickly our site locations change, we have modified a maintenance vehicle to be highly visible and to carry not only our products , but equipped it to quickly setup any barriers needed to safety erect and dismantle a work site to keep the community and our workers safe.
Sometimes the nature of the Job requires working alone. While performing work, our employees navigate the job sites through GPS coordinates that can update to our computer server to show their current location. Regardless, we check in often and everyone starts the day with a full cooler full of ice and drinks to combat that hot summer days.

Some Repairs require time to cure. Before we leave a location we will always fence off or barricade off an area to avoid by-stander injury ( and damage to the finish product).
Western Walkway Warriors adheres to the rules of Secor. Each day employees fill out logs for Job Hazard assessments, vehicle logs as well as weekly tool box meetings. Above that with the travel we do, maintenance to are equipment is a high priority.
